Tanner Trail

Made it past some tough sections to this point. The 690 was working to the point it briefly overheated.

This is the same trail that the boys and I rode to the top of Tanner Peak back in 2004. I was on the WR400F and they were riding their CRF-80’s. It is clear the dirt has washed away.

Canon City, CO

After the bears visiting the campsite, I packed up and headed out. With thunder and lightning, it was an easier decision.

Headed to Montrose to rinse off the vehicles and do laundry while I consider where I wanted to go to next.

Due to tje Forth of July weekend and observing full camogrounds along the way, I headed back to Canon City.

Nrxt outing will most likely be the ADVrally in Gunnison. That starts on the 13th of July.

Camping Adventure

Now for something different.

I’m at the picnic table with my back to the woods, a sound to my left gets my attention.

IT’S A BEAR! No, a bear with two cubs!

The doors were open on the right side of the Frontier. I ran and jumped into the front passenger seat and didn’t stop until I was in the driver’s seat!

Okay, the bear is moving slowly. It’s curious.

Eventually, I scared the cubs and the big bear followed; but, not before snorting some sound back at me. 😎

That sound was bear talk for “I’ll be back!”

And return they did. Around 9:45pm. With my high-powered flashlight, I was able to capture some cellphone video.

I just watched this time.

The mom bear meandered around the campsite, while the cubs followed. The cubs were testing their tree climbing skills and wrestled each other about 15-20 feet away.

Mom bear stepped up on the picnic table bench for sniff and look-see of the table top. She would be disappointed.

They left the same as earlier.

I slept in the truck last night.

Cinnamon Pass

I arrive at this pass in short time due to the pace on CO-30 from South of Lake City.

Mentally I’m aware of my position on the map, but still have some rough riding to finish.

Minutes afterwards I would be descending into Animas Forks. Now I have ride three of the four trails leading to/from this area. It just worked out that way.

Lake City, CO

After a 15 mile ride along a gravel road, I arrive  at Lake City.

Here I would top off the fuel tank with three quarters of a gallon of gas.

Fully aware of the time and the fact it took me three hours to get here, I waste no time heading south to pick up the next road going west, and ultimately Silverton.
